Home builder DR Horton is the latest developer to introduce “multi generational” homes into the South Florida market with designs that feature two complete homes under one roof.
This style of home is still predominantly featured in Miami Dade County, where a large Hispanic market is more accustomed culturally to having multiple generations living together, but with baby boomers and millennials making housing shifts, the trend could quickly move north.
In DR Horton’s Bonita Isles community in southwest Miami Dade County, the Hawthorne model is a two story home with about 3,900 square feet, four bathroomsand a three car garage. It offers a separate private entrance to the second home, featuring a great room,
kitchen, bedroom, full bath and laundry area.
“This multi gen space home is perfect for children living with an aging parent, parents who want to live with a grown child, or homeowners who entertain guests frequently,” DR Horton says in a press release.
Lennar has previously introduced its NextGen homes in South Florida, saying the “revolutionary” designs can come with a third garage with a separate entrance for extra independence.
something for older parents and kids graduating from the university that haven found a job and are coming back home, said Lennar Director of Sales and Marketing Frank Fernandez,
in a January 2014 interview with The Palm Beach Post.
